Create the Reuters Logo using Adobe Illustrator
In this tutorial we’ll be attempting to ape the Reuters logo. Let’s have a look at it to begin with:
The key to this logo is the circular logo mark, in which the circles appear to spiral and recede.

Create a new document with dimensions of 1024×768.
Select the Circle tool, create a circle by clicking once on the Canvas and typing in the circle dimensions:136X136px.
Open the Stroke Palette (Window>Stroke)
Increase your stroke to 14px, add the following settings:
Select the Width tool and drag in two of the opposing edges by about one half. This varies the width of the Stroke. If unsure watch the video tutorial above. You may need to try this a couple of times to get it right. If you make a mistake, use Cmd+Z to undo and try again.
You now have a circle of tapered circles similar to this:
We’ll now outline the stroke to keep it consistent when rescaled. To do this choose Edit> Path> Outline Stroke from the top menu. Now we can duplicate, scale and rotate our circle and it will retain consistent dimensions.
We’ll now create an action to duplicate and resize our circles.
Open the Actions Palette (Window>Actions)
Click the Create New Action button:
…and call your action ‘Reuters’, press Enter
Click the Start Recording button:
Copy your circle (Edit> Copy) and paste it in place (Edit>Paste in Place)
Right click your circle and choose Transform>Scale, type in 77%, press Enter
Right click your circle and choose Transform>Rotate, type in 24, press Enter
Click the Stop Recording button:
You now have an Action. It should display in the Actions window under the name given (‘Reuters’). This action will save us time so we don’t have to repeat the same steps manually over again. Highlight your action in the Actions Palette by clicking it, click Play Current Selection:
Click it 3 times so you have 5 circles, each one smaller and contained within the previous one.
Your Reuters Circle now looks like this:
For the full Reuters effect you’ll need to choose a red background: Reuters web red is R:220 G:10 B:10.
(and make your circles white)
The final challenge in creating this logo is matching the Reuters Font. If anyone is able to identify the Reuters Font please leave a comment and we’ll update this tutorial. Neo Sans is a close match.
